If I have Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate standing is it possible to get advanced placement in first-year studio courses?
If you have AP or IB standing in visual art from your high school, it is possible to get advanced placement in first-year courses. You may, or may not, take advantage of this advanced standing if you obtained a grade high enough to be recognized as credit equal to one or more of our first year prerequisite courses. UBC recognizes the Advanced Placement (AP) enriched secondary school program. To see potential credit transfers in all subjects go to the Advanced Placement (AP) enriched secondary school program link (http://www.welcome.ubc.ca/transfer.cfm?page=firstyear&view=placement) .
UBC credit will be granted if you achieve a grade of 4 or better on approved AP exams. In some cases, unassigned credit may be granted for AP courses. The table below indicates the transfer credit possible from AP Visual Arts classes.

What courses you are able to register in depends on the amount of credit you are given, for further details speak to the Undergraduate Secretary at 604-822-5650 or contact via email at ahvahead@interchange.ubc.ca. If you are eligible for credit/exemption for a first-year course, please consult departmental advisors at UBC before registering for second-year courses. The Department Undergraduate Secretary must force students with advanced placement into second-year courses.
